Laboratory Technician - Derbyshire

An extremely interesting role. This continually expanding manufacturer or a wide range of specialised cleaning and maintenance chemicals require a Laboratory Technician to join their existing team. The prime responsibilities of the role are split 50:50 between Quantity Control and Development work

The Quality Control aspect of the position includes testing finished batches of product to ensure compliance of specification. It could mean the adjustment of a particular specification parameter such as pH or viscosity. Technicians need to be accurate, conscientious and have mathematical  skills. Testing varies from simple physical measurement (density or pH) to using high tech automatic analysis using Autotitration and HPLC techniques.

The Development aspect of the position can be varied. Ideally the technician will show creativity and be able to work on his/her own initiative, ultimately ending up specialising in a particular area, such as say ‘cosmetic’ or ‘aerosol’ products or method development. Technicians showing particular aptitude would be encouraged to develop into Chemists.

Ideally the position of technician would be suitable to persons of A level standard or persons of laboratory experience in a similar environment. Technicians need to be reliable, accurate, have good mathematical bias, not only be able to work on their own but also work as part of a team. Basic computer use experience would be useful.

A dual shift system is operated where staff alternate between a morning (06.00 – 14.00) or afternoon shift (13.55 – 10.25 Monday to Thursday, 13.55 – 19.55 Friday). Technicians work as pairs so support can be given to each other during busy periods or when problems arise and needs to be sorted.
