A Laboratory Supervisor is required for a large food manufacturing company. Ideally applicants will have supervisory experience in a laboratory or at least 3 years of experience in a fast paced laboratory environment as well as a strong background in Microbiology. The over all purpose of the role is to organise, administer and participate in the workload of the laboratory in an efficient manner and to maintain, with assistance where needed, the performance of staff and equipment.
Main duties include:-
· To prioritise workloads and to organise allocation of tasks on the bench and in the pathogen laboratory.
· To perform technical work and analytical techniques to a high standard including non-routine analysis.
· To supervise, check and approve the quality of work and data produced by the laboratory.
· To perform and ensure calibrations are up-to date and within specification.
· To implement all procedures concerned with the quality control and assurance of results and data produced.
· To recommend and implement improvements in the work area in line with key performance measurements and organisational objectives.
· To assist with PDP’s and interviews of analysts and technicians.
· To provide mentorship where required for new employees.
· To liase with clients on a regular basis to ensure satisfaction and help with technical issues, including laboratory tours.
· Any other tasks assigned by the laboratory manager.
· To set up and report the internal and external quality control systems.
· To set up the weekly control organisms.
· To check interim and completed shelf life data.
· To ensure the satisfactory completion of the daily checklist and site security procedures.
· To authorise the issue of out of specification results in accordance with section QP26 of the UKAS Quality Manual.
· To assist with the distribution and authorisation of staff holiday entitlement, completion of sickness and absence records, and completion of self-certificates.
· To report weekly key performance indicators in the absence of the laboratory manager.
· To be trained audit officers and so aid the site’s quality audit schedule.
